Covid-19 News and Updates

Stay up-to-date with our news and updates as they happen

CURRENT NEWS – 24th February 2022

You may have read the latest government guidelines explaining that you are not legally required to self-isolate if you test positive for COVID-19. However if a student is ill and testing positive we do ask that you train online please to prevent the spread within the school. As with any illness, e.g. sickness, diarrhoea, etc. please stay at home and if you are well enough you are welcome to join us in an online class.

“You will not have to take daily tests or be legally required to self-isolate following contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.” However, if we are told that a student has trained with us and within 24hrs tests positive for Covid, we will inform all students out of courtesy and consideration.

Happily more and more freedoms are being allowed. We will still be remaining vigilant to ensure the considerations of safety for all of our students, parents and Horntye Park staff and we will continue to do our best to keep the risks of transmission to a minimum. Thank you all for your cooperation and support in order for us to remain OPEN!

Our checklist:

  • Although we are teaching in-person, parents/guardians/family members will not be permitted to sit in the classroom during classes to reduce the risks of spreading Covid; at the moment we are keeping an eye on the numbers of cases now that all restrictions are lifted, when we feel that it is safe to invite parents/carers and grandparents back in to classes emails will be sent out.
  • We will keep the sanitisation station in place; this includes hand sanitisers, face coverings and tissues readily available for all students.
  • We will be keeping the same timetable, when this changes all members will be notified by email.
  • Instructors, John and myself, are now able to work on correcting students hand and arm placement and sensitivity testing; as we do this we will be wearing face coverings and regularly using hand sanitisers.
  • All equipment and the classroom will continue to be cleaned between each class.
  • Students will be offered a face covering while working face-to-face with other students and instructors. Face coverings are no longer mandatory however with Covid still out there if students want to, when a class is busy they can wear one because it can reduce the risk of transmission.
  • Partner work is going ahead and partners will swap, if students want to use the sanitiser and masks they can. Most of our adult members do because they maybe living with or visiting vulnerable family members during the course of the week.
  • Drinks bottles and student’s own training equipment, e.g. nunchuks, escrimas sticks should not be shared.
  • Training equipment is provided and we will still sanitise all of it between each use.
  • We will also continue to ensure that we have good ventilation in our classroom.

We will still need to be informed immediately of any positive cases if a student has trained with us within a 24hr period please. If we then test positive we will unfortunately need to take the classes online if we are well enough to do so to reduce the risks of passing it on. We will also contact everyone in that class to advise them to do a LFD test to ensure their safety. Following this if student’s LFD and/or PCR results are clear and they are showing no symptoms they may attend classes, however if there is Covid in the household we do advise that the student trains online please. John and myself still do regular LFD tests to make sure that we are also clear to attend classes. If you are showing any symptoms of Covid-19, no matter how mild, please do not come into class, you will always have the option to train online.

On a personal note John and I need to stay safe because we have work outside of Kung Fu Schools, both working with vulnerable adults and both having vulnerable family members so we thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

CURRENT NEWS – Tuesday 11th January 2022

We have updated our safety guidance today following the latest guidance detailed on the government’s website. There is a link below to the latest ‘Stay at home’ guidance for same household members and a link to the current guidelines for sports participants, both covering helpful advice on how we can continue to keep each other safe.

Happily more freedoms are being allowed, however we will still be remaining vigilant with the rapid spread of the Omicron variant for the considerations of safety of our students, parents and Horntye Park staff and we will continue to do our best to keep the risks of transmission to a minimum. Thank you all for your cooperation and support.

Our checklist:

  • Please read the latest Government Guidance on Stay at home (dated 22 January 2022)
  • Copy of the latest Guidance on Covid-19 measures for sports participants (dated 7 January 2022)
  • Although we are teaching in-person, parents/guardians/family members will not be permitted to sit in the classroom during classes to reduce the risks of spreading Covid, as soon as we can return to this members will be notified by email.
Face coverings are no longer mandatory however it is advised that when a room is busy it is advisable to wear one because it can reduce the risk of transmission.
  • In some of our classes partner work is now an option. Students who are happy to take part in this will be allocated a partner to stay with for the duration of the class. This enables us to limit too much contact.
  • Drinks bottles and student’s own training equipment, e.g. nunchuks, escrimas sticks should not be shared.
  • Training equipment will be provided and sanitised between each use.
  • We will also continue to ensure that we have good ventilation in our classroom.
  • We will continue to advise family members and guardians dropping students to/from class and adult students to ‘check-in’ using the QR codes on display at the entrance of the classroom and around the grounds of Horntye Park. You can ‘check-in’ at Horntye Park by using the NHS App.

With self-isolation guidance changing regularly, if you do test positive for Covid-19 within 48 hours of training with us, you will still need to self-isolate for 10 days. We will still need to be informed immediately so that we can contact everyone in that class to advise them to do a LFD test. Following this if student’s LFD and/or PCR results are clear and they are showing no symptoms they may attend classes. John and myself also do regular LFD tests to make sure that we are also clear to attend classes.

CURRENT NEWS – Monday 19th July 2021

From today government have announced that many of the lockdown restrictions have been eased. As we pass into this next stage of living with Covid we want to assure you all that we while we are all happy to be allowed certain freedoms again, we will be taking these next steps carefully and slowly. It is still vital that we all remain vigilant and exercise our own common sense with respect for each other, considerations for us as your instructors, all Horntye Park staff and people attending within the grounds please.

This is how Kung Fu Schools Hastings will be operating:

  • For now spectators/parents/guardians will not be invited into the classroom, don’t worry this will return and when it does all members will be notified by email.
  • We will keep the sanitisation station in place; this includes hand sanitisers, masks and tissues readily available for all students.
  • We will be keeping the same timetable for now while we all adjust to the new easing of restrictions, when this changes all members will be notified by email.
  • Instructors, John and myself, will now be able to work more closely with students, as we do this we will be wearing face coverings and regularly using hand sanitisers.
  • Instructors will have minimal contact as we enter into these eased restrictions for the purposes of adjusting/correcting arms shapes and for sensitivity testing.
  • All equipment will continue to be sanitised and the classroom will be cleaned between each class.
  • Students will be offered a face covering while working face-to-face with other students and instructors, face coverings are no longer mandatory but when in the classroom if it’s busy, please keep in mind that it may reduce the risk of transmission, it will of course be up to the student to choose.
  • In some of our classes partner work will now be an option, students who are happy to take part in this will be allocated a partner and stay with that training partner for the duration of the class to limit too much contact.
  • Drinks bottles and student’s own training equipment, e.g. nunchuks, escrimas sticks should not be shared.
  • Training equipment will be provided and sanitised between each use.
  • We will also continue to ensure that we have good ventilation in our classroom.
  • We will again update our risk assessment which will be available to view from this website.
  • Families, guardians dropping students to class will continue to be asked to ‘check-in’ using the QR codes on display at the entrance of the classroom and around the grounds of Horntye Park.
  • Adult students will also need to ‘check-in’ using the QR codes on display around Horntye Park.
  • You can ‘check-in’ at Horntye Park by using the NHS App
  • To access the current guidance on Covid-19 measures for grassroots sport participants, providers and facility operators in full please click here.

We are all happy to have some of our freedoms returned, however, John and myself do ask respectfully that we all help each other by remaining vigilant, by that we mean we must use common decency and common sense to keep everyone safe. So please continue to follow the current advice that if you or your child does have any of the Covid-19 symptoms no matter how mild please do an LFT test and train online. Do not come into the class. If you have been in contact with a positive Covid-19 case and been instructed to self-isolate and you know that you have trained with us within 48 hours of being in contact with that positive case, please inform us immediately. Please keep us updated on whether your LFT and PCR test is positive or negative.

We are very aware of the risk that with just one confirmed Covid-19 case within our school will effectively close it. This will take all classes back online which we are trying to avoid. Also on a personal noted John and I need to stay safe because we have work outside of Kung Fu Schools, both working with vulnerable adults and both having vulnerable family members.

We thank you for your continued support and cooperation. Let’s take these next steps together carefully and we feel sure that our school will continue to have a great future.
