Kung Fu Creative Activities

Here are some fun and creative activities to do at home!

Would you like to learn how to write Wing Chun using Chinese Calligraphy? Below I’ve recorded a video showing you how to write the style of Kung Fu that we train in class in the traditional Chinese way. It will take some practice to get the hang of drawing the symbols but don’t worry just have fun with it and give it a go. When you’re happy with your drawings maybe add some colour. Fun fact: did you know that Wing Chun is approximately 300 years old?

The story of Hua Mulan is that she is a legendary/fictional female warrior who takes the place of her elderly father to fight in the Chinese Imperial Army to defend her country against the attack of the Northern invaders! With her brother being too young to fight as well she decides to disguise herself as a man, Hua Jun, she faces many challenges on her journey and must use her inner-strength to realise her true potential to fight for her family and her country. She is already skilled in fighting having been taught martial arts, sword fighting and archery by the time she enlists in the army. Mulan fought for twelve years and gained not only a warrior’s reward but also the respect of her country and her proud father. This inspiring story actually comes from a Chinese historic poem called “The Ballad of Mulan”. In Chinese her name, Mùlán refers to the ‘magnolia’.
